Child Advocate
Most likely you are deeply moved when you encounter a picture of a vulnerable child in a magazine or on the internet. You may even have a passion to see them cared for, fed, clothed, educated, and surrounded by the love of God. Yet maybe you are thinking to yourself, “I just don’t have the money to help them.” If that’s the case, then we invite you to become a Child Advocate for ELI! It doesn’t take money or special skills - all you need is a caring heart, relationships with people, and a boldness to speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves.
Here’s the scoop: As a Child Advocate, ELI will mail you profiles for three of our unsponsored children and ask you to pray and work creatively to find a sponsor for each child. Sponsors commit to giving $30 per month to cover the cost of food, clothing, basic health care, and education for that child. You have a chance to impact the lives and the futures of the children we send you! Share the need with your friends, co-workers, neighbors, small group, and church. Work your connections! God has placed you in specific relationships and we ask you to be a voice for these children in your own circles of influence.
Getting Started
E-mail Us: E-mail our office at getinvolved@empoweringlives.org to let us know you are interested in serving as a Child Advocate. We will then mail you three profiles and an information letter to help you get started!
The Profiles: Strategically place the child profiles you receive in your home of office where people will be sure to see them. Place a sign next to them that says, “Ask me about this child!” Carry a profile in your bag at all times so you are prepared to share on any occasion.
Action Steps
Pray: This is definitely the place to start! Pray for the kids that you receive. Pray that God will provide sponsors who will love them, pray for them, and encourage them throughout the coming years. Pray for their future sponsors. We believe that God has called specific people to sponsor these kids, so pray that He leads you to them. Pray for connections with them, for the Holy Spirit’s movement in their hearts, and for sensitivity to know when God is asking you to share the opportunity with them. God will provide the sponsors – and you get to be the connector that He uses!
Work your Circles of Influence: Share the opportunity at your church - ask to make an announcement, set up a table in the back, and share with Sunday School classes. Share with those in your home group, your work place, your school, your gym, your sports team, your family, or your neighborhood.
Find Committed Sponsors: If a person decides they want to be a sponsor, give them the profile and the information form they need to fill out. We will give you all of the instructions they will need. E-mail us their contact information and the good news and we will take it from there!
