Garage Sale for Good
We live in a world filled with tremendous physical and spiritual needs. But God has also blessed us with a lot of resources - in fact we often have EXCESS. We invite you to use that excess to make a difference in this world by hosting a unique garage sale at your house! This is a strategic opportunity for you to connect with the people in your neighborhood as well as to make a tangible difference among the needy and spiritually lost in East Africa. Together, let’s clear out the clutter and make a world of difference!
Getting Started
Pick a Date: Pick a date and email your completed registration form to getinvolved@empoweringlives.org. We have a prayer force in place that will join in praying for your unique event. We will be cheering you on and praying for God’s favor as you clear out the clutter, turn trinkets into treasure, and become a participant in empowering the lives of the hurting and lost. We would also love to send you any ELI brochures or information that you would like to display and distribute at your event.
Collect Items: Just as you would for any garage sale, start looking around for things that you don’t use anymore. As you choose those items, be aware that God may ask you to give up things that are of value to you, but unimportant in light of eternity. Be willing to listen and obey.
Inform your Family, Friends, and Neighbors: Encourage them to get involved and bring their clutter to sell as well! Contact businesses to have a silent auction for donated items – things like musical instruments, a shopping coupons, or a vacation cruise. Print a notice to put on your neighbors’ doors to share the vision and encourage their involvement. Make signs to advertise and direct people to your garage sale. On the morning of the event, place the signs on all the major streets near your home to direct people to your house. Make sure your event is well-advertised and people are able to find your home easily.
Action Steps
Celebrate the Day: Have your garage sale and have some fun! Set up a lemonade stand. Give away free hot dogs. Play encouraging music if you want. Commit the day to prayer. Take every opportunity to share about Africa and the children you are supporting. Put pictures and signs up so people can take a few minutes to learn more about Africa and the ministry of ELI.
Report on the Day: After the event, count up your proceeds and call or email the ELI office to let us know the good news. We would love to post some pictures and a small testimony from your event on our website. Send a check to our office for the amount raised and we will immediately send you a tax deductible receipt as well as handmade paper and banana bark cards that you can use for all occasions.
