Daniel and Jen Davis
Health and Education Advancement
Jen and I knew before we were married that God was calling us to work in Africa. After completing our training in the US, myself as a teacher/administrator and Jen as a nurse, we started searching for organizations that matched our philosophies of work in Africa. It was through a chance meeting in 1999 and another meeting later that our paths crossed with Don Rogers and the ELI Kenya team in 2004. Upon learning about the practical strategies for empowering the poor, the lives changed, and the opportunity to work under and alongside African leadership, Jen and I joined ELI in 2006 and went to Kenya. I worked as a teacher in ELI’s Brook of Faith Academy and Jen served in a medical clinic.
We spent one year in Kenya familiarizing ourselves with the workings of ELI, six months in France learning French, and are currently assigned to Bukavu, Congo to work with ELI’s school in the Keredi slum. The goals are building capacity in teachers and school systems through training and administration and helping ELI Congo in general communication and ministry support. Obviously, much of ministry happens outside of a job description--through relationships, discipleship, prayer, and in simply being members of a community, sharing its joys and trials. Another part of our ministry is in taking care of the daughters God has given us - Tovah born 8/25/04 and Elami born 6/23/06.
