80% of most illnesses in developing countries would be eliminated if the people had access to clean water and basic sanitation. Every 21 seconds a child dies from a water born disease.
Sickness is a significant and dark reality for millions living in poverty. ELI recognizes the dramatic impact that health has in either building or destroying lives in a community. It gives God glory when a sick person is miraculously healed BUT it ALSO gives God glory when a person remains healthy and knows how to prevent sickness in their lives and families! To be empowered includes the ability to work and worship without hindrance. This is the focus of Empowering Lives Health Ministry – the prevention of sickness and disease through prayer and practical training strategies.
ELI strategies include:
Creating awareness of the diseases that debilitate life including HIV/AIDS.
Providing practical knowledge and useful materials to prevent sickness and the spread of HIV/AIDS and to improve health.
Celebrating individuals and families who have implemented the ideas of a healthy home environment so that others will be motivated to follow their example.
We see success in this area of our work when:
A family that has gained new knowledge remains healthy for months at a time and has applied visible strategies to prevent sickness and disease in his or her home which others in the community are motivated to duplicate.
