There is great reward when we embrace others in need and equip them with skills (not handouts) so that dignity and sustainability can be passed on to others!
Extending the Reach (2000-2004)
- 2000: Ministry in DR Congo begins at the request of Congolese national leadership. The first training program begins in the Keredi slum that launches a soap making and hand-made card project.
- 2000: God opens exciting doors in Kenya to establish an outreach and accountability program for recovering alcoholics.
- 2001: ELI Skills Training Program in Kipkaren, Kenya grows to include a unique on campus 6 month Sustainable Community Development Program.
- 2002: Kenya Anti-Alcohol Program provides detox program and Christian recovery along with Skills for Life training.
- 2003: ELI partners with the Kipkaren River (Kenya) community and a local village church to construct a desperately needed health clinic.
- 2003: Research trip taken across Kenya and into Uganda to better understand the most effective way to help suffering orphans.
- 2004: ELI expands construction in the Keredi slum (DR Congo) with additional school classrooms at the ELI Christian Academy, helping over 300 needy children. The Chihonga village “Get Your Goat” program takes root and expands to help over 200 families.
- 2004: ELI launches village-wide HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns that include counseling and testing programs.
- 2004: The first Children’s Home opens in Ilula, Kenya.
