Stephen’s life once felt like a dead end. What began as “just one sip” spiraled into 15 years of addiction, stealing his dreams, possessions, and hope. By 40, he believed nothing good was meant for him . . . yet even in the wreckage, God was orchestrating a redemption story.

Through the connection of his nephew, an ELI Children’s Home caregiver, Stephen heard a life-changing question: “Would you accept help?” His “yes” opened the door to ELI’s rehab program, where God began writing a new chapter.

After three months of hard work and experiencing God’s grace, Stephen was free from addiction and felt refreshed in mind, body, and spirit. This freedom even inspired eleven other men to follow his path to sobriety! His journey of healing and newfound purpose laid the foundation for a full and meaningful life. He married his beloved wife Julie, built a family of five children, and now serves his community as a school security officer, church leader, and farmer. What a transformation! The road wasn’t easy, but with faith and steadfast determination, Stephen’s mourning was turned to dancing.

Stephen’s life is proof that with God’s grace and the right support, restoration is possible. “We have the peace of God as a family,” Julie says. “To every woman praying for her husband battling addiction—don’t give up. One day, a breakthrough will come.”
