Petronila
In Kenya, many people who are struggling to make ends meet end up brewing illegal alcohol in a desperate attempt to earn money. 
This was true for Petronila, a mother in N'gorngoroi, Kenya, who wanted to provide for her family in any way she could. After years of being stuck in this destructive lifestyle, Petronila decided to make a change. Luckily, ELI’s Family HOPE trainings were being held in the community! She attended the training and quickly began exploring new ways to sustain her family.
Things were looking up for Petronila until just 3 years later, when her husband suddenly passed away. She was absolutely devastated and fell back to her old ways of brewing once again. Her children were greatly affected by this and would often ask her, “Do we have to hide from the police now?” and “Are we going to have good food or go to school anymore?” As she listened to her children, Petronila realized that their lives were becoming overwhelmed by confusion and fear. This was not the life she wanted for her family . . . so she decided to make a change one more time.
After receiving additional training, encouragement, counseling, and HOPE, Petronila began making progress on her own kitchen garden. Before long, her land was filled with thriving produce and even a few farm animals! She was finally seeing the fruitfulness of her hard work and determination, as well as the goodness of God. 
Now Petronila is a committed follower of Jesus and is constantly sharing her testimony of transformation with everyone around her! Her land is thriving, her children are in school, she is an active member of her local church, and she has HOPE for her future. She joyfully shared, “I thank God for ELI because, when I supply vegetables to my customers or see them coming to purchase in my farm, I feel full in my life!”
