Wagabi
In 2017, Wagabi arrived in Nairobi and began her journey working as a domestic worker. It was during this time that she discovered her love for dressmaking. Determined to turn her interest into a skill she could earn from, she enrolled in sewing classes, and within a year, she was offering tailoring services on a part-time basis.
For years, Wagabi struggled, attempting to run her dressmaking venture as a formal business but saw little financial success. The turning point finally came when she attended a Business For Life training—an experience that fundamentally transformed her mindset and equipped her with the tools to truly thrive as an entrepreneur.

Through the training, she realized that having dressmaking skills was not enough. She mastered important business aspects like: identifying when a business opportunity exists, record-keeping, marketing and other practical business tools that helped her business thrive. Today, she isn't just a talented tailor, she is a successful small business owner in her community.
She is able to pay herself a salary from her business that covers all her living expenses. She also retains some savings. As a hardworking single mother and the primary provider for her household, Wagabi takes immense pride in her accomplishments. Her business has become the engine of her family’s success, providing the financial stability necessary to keep both of her children in school.
Wagabi’s transformation is a powerful reflection of a larger movement. Because of partners like you, Business For Life has been transforming lives through business training since 2007. In 2025 alone, BFL empowered a total of 196 new entrepreneurs like Wagabi, 138 of whom are women. This milestone highlights our ongoing commitment to unlocking the economic potential of women, turning them into leaders who transform their families and their respective communities.
Thank you for supporting the training that makes these success stories possible.
