Pastor Magdalene

For 14 years, Pastor Magdalene lived in darkness. Alcohol shaped every part of her life, leading to chaos, conflict, and bruised relationships. As a brewer, she was trapped in a destructive cycle, relying on brewing to survive, earn an income, and provide for her family in any way she could.

Even though Magdalene once thought there was no way out of this cycle that brought danger, shame, and ongoing hardship, everything began to change in 2019 when Empowering Lives International reached her home village of Bogoria, Kenya. Through saying yes to receiving training, spiritual guidance, and the transformative truth of the Gospel, Magdalene’s heart shifted! Peace replaced conflict, broken relationships were restored, and she finally found a path to freedom through practical skills that could help her earn a God-honoring income.

This transformation rippled through her family, too. Her sister, who had brewed for 20 years, embraced change, and her husband left alcoholism behind. Now, Magdalene has stepped into a new season of her God-given purpose—leading her community as a pastor, sharing the same hope she received, and guiding others who are trapped in cycles of pain.

“Our community now believes that transformation is real,” she says. “I thank ELI for showing us that peace, purpose, and restoration are possible through God.”
