Pastor Purity

Pastor Purity and her husband, Pastor Chebii, lead a small church in Chepkorio, Kenya. In their youth, both felt God call them to serve through church leadership, so when they were married, they went to work serving the Lord together with gladness.

Their desire to reach the lost, the lonely, and the sinner is unique. Though many pastors know they should embrace sinners and provide them with avenues to come to Jesus, brewers and alcoholics are viewed as worse than sinners and even less than human.

Last year, Pastor Purity and Pastor Chebii felt led by the Lord to open the doors of their church at 3:00 on Sunday mornings so those who had been up drinking that night or selling their illegal brew could find a warm place to come and experience the love of God. Now they have seen hearts change, their church grow, and reformed brewers and alcoholics lead recovery programs in their church!

Partnering with pastors is a primary focus for ELI’s training teams, as we understand that change cannot be sustained in a community without a strong influence from the local church. In addition to providing support for many chiefs and elders, we are increasing training for church leaders and ministers of the gospel. And now Pastor Purity and Pastor Chebii are working alongside ELI to engage with the broken and be a part of village-wide change.

Because of your faithful prayers and support, we are able to continue the work of collaborating and training together! As we do so, we are convinced the love and power of God will replace the strongholds of darkness, alcoholism, and hopelessness—one life and one family at a time.
