World Changers in Butula, Kenya
In Kenya it’s common for the government to organize economic empowerment programs in an effort to maintain stability; however, it’s never been a priority to empower the children in these communities. Because of this, the opportunity to build a strong economic foundation through the next generation is missed.
3 of ELI’s Team of Change members from Butula, Kenya, decided to change this approach by reaching out to the children in their own community. They approached the principal of Butula Boys Primary School with their idea to implement training and community projects within the school, which would equip students with vital skills early on. Before they knew it, the idea had been embraced and implemented throughout the school! A total of 96 students began participating in agricultural training projects where they learned all about land preparation, multiple approaches to gardening, and business skills.
The school faculty was astonished by the impact this project had on each student, and they have even seen this impact extend into the community! So far 10 students from Butula Boys Primary have begun to establish gardens at their own homes. They are preparing the land, tending the gardens, and even selling produce to earn money for school supplies. It’s incredible to see these students feeling eager to learn new things and empowered to take action. Each and every one is a true World Changer, and this transformative movement is just getting started. Our Team of Change has already initiated contact with 2 more schools in the area to implement the same program!
So many communities in Kenya are being transformed through the empowerment of their youth, and we want to thank you for being a part of it! Without partners like you, we wouldn’t have these stories to tell. We can’t wait to see how God continues to bless these communities!
