God-Given Gifts in Action
At Empowering Lives International, we’re passionate about helping our children discover their God-given talents. One of the most exciting ways we’re seeing that happen right now is through volleyball, where a growing passion is taking root among our Junior Secondary School students. They have been working hard to build their skills, teamwork, discipline, and confidence both on and off the court!
Recently, these young athletes had the opportunity to put their hard work to the test during a volleyball match with a neighboring school. We’re thrilled to share that they played with excellence, ultimately taking the victory! And this wasn’t just a one-time event. In fact, this determined team has already competed with 22 other schools and are now able to move to the next level, with over 40 schools expected to participate, giving them the chance to further improve their skills and make memories that will last a lifetime.
This exciting achievement represents more than just winning—it is a powerful example of what can happen when children are supported, encouraged, and given the opportunity to be who God created them to be. We want to thank you for being a vital part of that process through your prayers and support! As these boys head into a new level of competition, we invite you to stand with them in prayer for guidance, sportsmanship, and continued growth in both skill and character.
ELI Counseling
We believe that igniting World Changers takes a special kind of investment, which is why we have intentionally poured into our children through the ELI Counseling Program!

Career Choosing Day
Our counseling department, in collaboration with our college mentorship team, recently hosted a career guidance session for the high school graduates from our Ilula and Kipkaren Children’s Homes! Joined by their guardians and house parents, the students received valuable insights into career options, college educational pathways, and essential life skills to help them navigate the next phase of their schooling. This personalized guidance inspired lively, informative discussions that answered the students’ questions, helping them feel informed and empowered.
As the session came to a close, each student had the opportunity to select three career paths that best align with their personal interests, God-given talents, and the academic requirements of different schools. These choices were then submitted to the college mentorship team, who help each student apply to the college programs of their choosing. The students should hear back from the colleges regarding their applications in the next three to four months.
We are so grateful to you, our friends and supporters, who have made this session possible. Your generosity allowed these young World Changers to receive thoughtful, faith-filled guidance! Let’s continue to pray that God will bless them with wisdom, understanding, and a deep hunger for learning as they move forward on this academic journey.
- Clarity and confidence as each student considers their chosen career paths.
- Open doors during the college application process—that each student would be accepted into the programs that will best equip them for their futures.
- Continued health, peace, and joy for everyone at our Ilula and Kipkaren Children’s Homes!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
As we step into 2025 with excitement and hope, we’re also reflecting on a truly unforgettable Christmas celebration at our Children’s Homes! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our ELI family, these children experienced a day filled with joy, fellowship, and intentional time with their forever family.
The Homes were overflowing with happiness as the children received their brand-new Christmas outfits, played exciting games, enjoyed a delicious meal, and shared their hopes for the year ahead, creating memories that will last a lifetime!
We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of this celebration with you in the video below—enjoy the festive moments that your generosity helped make possible!
Vacation Bible School
The holiday season has officially begun at our Kipkaren and Ilula Children’s Homes, providing a wonderful opportunity for our children to participate in Vacation Bible School (VBS)! This year’s VBS began with enthusiasm, bringing together our beloved children for a time of fellowship, faith, and fun.
The VBS program opened with a special Bible lesson on what it looks like to be bold in our faith, accompanied by engaging craft and memory verse activities that helped to enhance the lesson. Throughout the day, Edna, our Children’s Ministry Coordinator, encouraged the children to share the gospel with boldness, just as Paul did—reminding them that even at a young age, they can be impactful witnesses for Christ!
“But the Lord said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9
Inspired by the story of Paul and empowered by ‘storing up’ Scripture in their hearts, it was a chance for the children to truly grow spiritually and to build confidence in their faith. In fact, 25 children rededicated their lives to Christ! As they prepare to visit their guardians over the Christmas holiday, the children have committed to boldly sharing the gospel message, putting into practice the lessons they have learned.
Together, let’s continue to pray for these children, that they hold onto these teachings and remain steadfast in faith as they grow into mighty World Changers!
Prayer Requests:
- That these precious children will remain bold in sharing their faith!
- For God to encourage, uplift, and guide our children throughout the rest of the year and beyond.
- For bonds in our Children’s Homes to be continually strengthened as our children and House Parents spend intentional time together over the holidays.
- Continued health, safety, and abundant joy for the entire ELI family!
Guardians' Day 2024: Carrying Out the Mission
“Empowering Orphans and Families to Crush Poverty, Embrace Christ, & Share Their Transformation with Others”
Guardians’ Day has always been one of the most highly anticipated events at ELI Children’s Homes! Traditionally, this day has been a time for the guardians (children’s extended family) to come together with the children and house parents to celebrate all God has done in the lives of the children since they were last together before returning with the children to their home village for the school holiday. Now, this day is not only a celebration of the children’s empowerment, but has expanded to become a celebration of guardian empowerment!
A few days prior to the most recent Guardians’ Day celebration, guardians arrived at the Children's Homes for a two-day training session at our ELI Training Center. There, they gained practical skills in soap making, baking, kitchen gardening, and poultry farming. But they also gained relational skills as they were encouraged to prioritize intentional family time, engage in meaningful conversations, pray together, and attend church services together to strengthen their bonds with the children. The goal is to enrich the guardians’ lives and empower them with skills, dignity, and the love of God and then empower others to do the same!
Guardians’ Day was indeed a joy filled celebration of God-led personal empowerment for the children, their guardians, and the entire ELI family, as expressed by the guardians themselves:
“I am so thankful to God for the gift of life and to ELI for the warm welcome, training, and care provided to the children. Thank you for teaching them God's word and for teaching us these useful skills!”
“Thank you, ELI, for the impactful work being done to restore these children's hearts, faith, and spirit!”
Join us in praying over the guardians, the children, and their treasured time together.
Prayer Requests:
- For God to continue encouraging, uplifting, and protecting the guardians at their homes.
- Guardians will apply the skills training they received.
- For the guardians to embrace their role in the ELI family as they together ignite these young World Changers.
- Healthy bonds will grow and develop between the children and their guardians
- For continued health, safety, and JOY for our ELI family!
Young Adult Empowerment Training
“The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the LORD, will make it happen.” Isaiah 60:22
Revival. Restoration. Renewal. The impact of God’s redeeming love and perfect timing was evident as 12 of our young adults gathered for a special three-day intensive Business for Life training session at ELI’s Kipkaren Training Center.
The young adults who gathered there were some of those who had not completed college or had opted for a different path in life, such as marriage and starting a family. They were invited by their ELI family to come together to learn essential life skills that would empower them to start their own businesses and better support their families.
During the training, they were taught a variety of practical skills that included soap making, kitchen gardening, baking bread and scones, and poultry keeping. To these they applied the key principles of identifying business opportunities, starting a business, and record-keeping. These skills were carefully selected to provide a well-rounded foundation in entrepreneurship and business management to quip them to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and expertise.
As the training concluded, the young adults were commissioned and given a small stipend to help in getting their businesses up and running. Each participant expressed gratitude for the opportunity to acquire these crucial skills and shared their plans for the future. They were eager to put their newfound knowledge into practice!
The impact of this Business for Life Training extends far beyond the classroom. The training has not only equipped them with practical skills, but it has also instilled in them a sense of empowerment, purpose, and renewal. As God ordained, “When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”
Prayer Requests:
- For each of these young adults to experience God’s peace and guidance as they use their new skills to start businesses and support their families
- For the House Parents and Trainers to feel an overwhelming sense of joy and accomplishment for raising and empowering these incredible men and women of God
- Continued health, provision, and blessings for each of these young adults and their growing families
HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELING
High school—4 years of working hard, overcoming challenges, discovering your God-given purpose, and dreaming BIG! Many of the students at our Children’s Homes are in the midst of these formative years, and we consider it a blessing to walk alongside them as they prepare for their bright futures.
One way we facilitate this significant preparation is through intentional counseling sessions with our high schoolers. This allows the students to participate in open discussions about both the rewarding and difficult things they are experiencing, receive encouragement as they review their coursework and identify their individual strengths, and determine a career path they sense the Lord is calling them to. ELI’s faithful counseling team, led by Veronica Busienei, recently held two separate high school counseling sessions, each targeting the key transition years of high school, 9th and 12th grades.
The 9th grade session served as a unique opportunity for these younger students to discuss the realities of transitioning into high school. The specific focus of this session was problem solving; guiding the students through the various stages of the process. First, the counselors helped them identify any problems they may be facing in this new school environment, whether it’s anxious thoughts, issues with peers, or difficulty in a certain class. Then, the students were asked to consider the potential outcomes of the problem, what the worst-case scenario could be, and what they could do in order to reach a solution. High school can be a time filled with many new challenges, but with our counselors in their corner, these students will be well prepared to solve them!
Our counseling team also arranged a session specifically for our seniors, who are nearing the finish line of high school and can see the starting line of college on the horizon! This intentional time together allowed our students to receive the extra push needed to finish strong as they approach year-end exams. With the guidance, encouragement, and support they have received, we have no doubt they will complete these tests with confidence! In addition to exam prep, they also spent time talking over their long-term goals and discovering practical steps in order to reach them. Our hope is that they will take what they have learned and use it to reach their full God-given potential, setting a strong example for others to do the same along the way.
As these students continue on their educational journey, we pray they feel empowered to face challenges with boldness and achieve their dreams with confidence. God has an incredible plan in place for each of these precious children, and we can’t wait to see how they unfold!Prayer Requests:
-
For the 9th graders in our Children’s Homes to continue feeling confident and excited during their transition into high school
-
For the 12th graders in our Children’s Homes to finish strong and lean on the Lord as they think about what their next steps will be after graduation
-
Continued health, safety, and JOY for the entire ELI family
Brook of Faith Fieldtrip
The kindergarten and first grade students at Brook of Faith Academy recently got to experience one of the most memorable and thrilling parts of life as a young student . . . a field trip! Contagious joy filled the air as these precious children traveled to Eldoret for a day of exploration, excitement, and educational experiences.
The first stop was a visit to the Eldoret Airport, where the students were mesmerized by the sight of airplanes landing and taking off right before their eyes! This experience sparked curiosity and wonder among their young minds, providing them with a glimpse into the fascinating world of air travel. Next, the group made their way to Terit Resort, where the children enjoyed a variety of recreational activities. From launching down slides and ziplines, to swinging as high as they could and jumping in a bounce castle to their heart’s content, this part of the trip was an absolute favorite! Their adventure continued with a visit to Rupas Mall, where they enjoyed a delicious lunch that left them all beaming with happiness.
As the day came to a close, the students returned home, their hearts full of excitement and their minds buzzing with new discoveries. Special bonds formed between the children were evident in the laughter and smiles that filled the air the whole way home! Stories were shared late into the night, cementing the life-long memories of a truly amazing day.
"I had such a great time on this trip! I loved the delicious food at Rupa Mall and going on a zipline for the first time. I even got to see a plane landing! It was so cool! I am incredibly thankful to God for this incredible opportunity. Thank you so much for your support and for helping to make outings like this possible!" - Owen Kipchirchir (KK-161)
Prayer Requests:
-
That God will encourage, uplift, and guide our children throughout the rest of this school year
-
For bonds throughout our Children’s Homes to be continually strengthened after such a special trip
-
