Bethwel Kibet Kogo
The providential path the Lord has for us can be a fascinating road of unexpected turns that lead us to places we never expected to, or even thought we could, end up. Raised at the Kipkaren Children’s Home, Bethwel Kibet Kogo experienced this revelation as his woodworking talents were recognized and encouraged by his House Parents.
It was clear by the 8th grade that Bethwel’s talents were in the trade of carpentry, so he pursued this course at Cheptarit Youth Polytechnic in 2018. Bethwel then spent 2 years honing his craft, successfully graduating in December of 2019. Upon his return home, Bethwel continued to create stunning pieces—beds, shoe racks, and beautiful doors of all kinds. As his talents were appreciated and word spread, a very loyal customer base was developed.
4 years after Bethwel started his own woodworking business, the Lord sent a familiar face back onto his path—leading to an unexpected turn! Aggrey Mudenge, the woodshop trainer at Empowering Lives International, approached Bethwel with an opportunity to give back and teach woodworking skills to students. Although this would be a big change in his life, Bethwel accepted the offer with enthusiasm and absolutely flourished under Mudenge’s guidance. He even expanded his expertise to include pen-making, which solidified his reputation as an expert craftsman. What an achievement!
Today, Bethwel still serves as a teacher, mentor, and inspiration to many students. He is able to reflect on his journey, humbly acknowledging the role that Empowering Lives International played in shaping his character, confidence, and skills. “Empowering Lives has nurtured me into the person I am today,” he expresses appreciatively when discussing the importance of both his practical skills as well as the spiritual nourishment he received and now passes on to others.
Bethwel’s story is a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and the transformative impact of mentorship. We celebrate Bethwel’s journey and consider all of those who have helped him achieve his success a blessing! These blessings are being passed forward to both his current and future students who will be transformed by the mentorship of Bethwel. Praise God!
