Dennis
Dennis and his sister were just 3 and 5 when their parents tragically passed, leaving them in the care of their grandmother. She did the best she could, but ultimately was not able to provide what the children needed. Still . . . hope was on the horizon! In 2006, Dennis and his sister were welcomed into one of the ELI Children’s Homes—a place that became a safe, loving environment where they could grow and thrive. That same year, Dennis began school at Brook of Faith Academy, setting him on a path toward a brighter future.
He worked hard in school and later joined Concord High School, where his determination continued to grow. Then, in 2018, Dennis took a big step toward his dream of pursuing higher education by enrolling in a three-month plant operation course at Kilimambogo College. There, he discovered a true passion for working with machinery and the potential it held for his future!
After completing the course, Dennis went on to complete a three-month internship in Elgeyo Marakwet, where he gained hands-on experience and sharpened his skills. However, despite his training, steady work was still hard to find. Instead of giving up, Dennis embraced the hustle! He took whatever opportunities he could to build experience and stay hopeful.
His persistence paid off. In January of this year, Dennis applied for a position at West Kenya Sugar Company. Out of 28 qualified applicants, he was the one chosen! Today, he operates the company’s powerful cane unloader machines and mentors 10 interns, passing along his knowledge and encouraging others just as he was once encouraged.
Dennis is incredibly grateful to the Empowering Lives family and his sponsors for their support through the years. He shared, “This opportunity wouldn’t exist without them, I thank God for choosing me out of 28 candidates.”
Now earning a steady income, Dennis helps support his grandmother and family, a full-circle moment of love, gratitude, and purpose. Because of friends like you, Dennis’ story and many others like it have been made possible. Your support of ELI’s Children’s Homes gives vulnerable children a safe place to live and the opportunity to dream, grow, and transform their futures. Thank you for helping turn heartache into hope and creating lasting impact for generations to come.
